1/2 cup Oats rolled regular and quick dry uncooked
1/2 cup, unthawed Blueberries frozen unsweetened
- Bring 1 cup of water to a boil, add dry rolled oats ("oatmeal"), turn heat down to medium, then cook for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. If you use quick oats, then follow package directions - it will take less time to cook.
- Add frozen blueberries, reduce heat to low, cover, and cook on low for another 2 minutes. This will allow the blueberries to warm up without overcooking the oats.
- Dish cooked oatmeal into a bowl. Top with cinnamon and maple syrup and enjoy!
If you like a very sweet taste but are trying to limit added sugars, try sugar-free maple syrup instead of real maple syrup.
If you prefer to avoid all added sugars but would still like a maple flavor, try adding a small amount of maple extract (1/8 tsp - 1/4 tsp) instead of maple syrup.
