I do not eat prepackaged foods, and, I cannot find generic food in suggestions

MyNetDiary is US-centric. Some popular branded items may be on the top instead of generic unbranded items. However, you may find the article on finding basic, non-branded foods helpful.

MyNetDiary is currently working on the naming convention so that basic, non-branded food items will appear towards the top of the list when searching for food. By the way, it is already implemented on the iPhone App and on the Android App. We call it Staple Foods. The feature can be accessed via the three-dot menu on the top-right corner of the particular meal screen, (e.g. Breakfast or Lunch screen).

In the meantime, reading the post four tips on how to find basic foods such as fruit, veggies, meats, fish, poultry, and raw vs. cooked grains and pasta will hopefully be helpful.
