Food Addiction Topic

I have actual dreams about food. I’m constantly hungry or I think I am anyways. I eat all the time in large amounts. I work in construction and all we have for breakfast and lunch is fast food options. My hobbies are going out to eat.

Hello Kaylabra,

I am sorry to hear you are struggling with food. Are you tracking your food intake to see how many calories you are taking in? It sounds like food has become a central focus in your life. Can you think about other ways to fill up your life to replace food? Maybe start by making a list of other activities that bring you joy. Also, any chance you can bring your own healthier lunch from home so you don't have to rely on fast food options? Could you get a refrigerated lunch bag?

This will be a journey for you but start with a few changes to get started. Do you have an idea of how you can get started?

You can do this! Brenda (MyNetDiary Dietitian)

You are just like me. I love food. I dream about it too. It makes me happy and being on a diet is hard. I’ve been counting my calories and making myself stick to it but I hate it. There are options at fast food restaurants that aren’t as bad. Just look for lower calorie options. I don’t restrict any food I just stay in my calorie budget. I will get a ten piece nugget and medium fry sometimes if i have the calories for it. I know it’s awful but once that weight starts coming off you will feel so much better. I’m on a diet again because when I’m not I over eat and I’ve gained 10 pounds blah. I don’t know if you can be addicted to food but if you can I definitely am lol. You can do this I know it sucks but you will love the results.

I know it’s hard

Something that really helps people with an intense focus on food is to start filling up your life with other things so that there is less time for food. Whatever floats your boat, like classes, social clubs, hobbies, gardening, helping others, volunteering, etc. Before you know it, you may find yourself eating to live rather than living to eat. The enjoyment of food is so short-lived, other things can sustain our happiness longer! Try it!

Live a full and vibrant life! Brenda (MyNetDiary Dietitian)
