Junior Space Cadet Food Program Topic

I have changed my eating patterns around to hopefully drop some weight. It is to a bar and shake program that has all of nutrients stripped from the food and fortified with vitamins. It is great on the days I am away from home and want something to eat without the urge to stop and get junk, or find a place that has what I can eat. My challenge is that I am running into the idea of this type of food not being sustainable for my long-term goals. Or is it? How have you succeeded in doing something like this?
