Anyone using Hcg drops and results of it?

I am not a big fan of this method to lose weight since it doesn't teach healthy lifestyle changes to effect a calories deficit. The hcg acts like an appetite suppressant but once you go off it, the appetite comes back. You still have to figure out how to eat and exercise to create a calories deficit (if you still have more weight to lose), or to maintain a calories balance (if you have reached goal weight). Hcg is not something you can take long term - eventually you go off of it.

With any diet you go on you have restrictions and anybody who has dieted should know that if you go back into your old habits after dieting the weight will come back no matter what diet you use. I suggest you read Pounds and Inches that can be found on the internet and also check out Youtube for some great motivational videos of real people that have lost weight with HCG and have kept it off. They also have lots of tips on ways to change your eating after protocol on phase 2 and going into phase 3.


I still worry about the safety of hcg as a weight loss aid (thanks for the reference). There is not enough GOOD research for me to feel confidant in recommending hcg as a viable option for weight loss, especially on a public forum. If your physician feels differently and you trust him/her, then you should do what you feel is right for you.

May I ask if you have read the full Pounds and Inches by Dr. Simeons. I also understand your concerns. Think the one thing that upset me with one of your other replies is that you didn't think this diet taught you how to eat properly. But if you read and follow the phases it really does. I will also be completely honest with you that I was skeptic at first to until I talked with my physician. The drops or injections aren't for everybody. You have to find what works for you.


I think everyone considering HCG or any other type of weight loss regimen should carefully research, ask health care providers, make an informed decision and move forward with what is best for them at the time!

I found this article by Jennifer K. Nelson, M.S., R.D., L.D at the Mayo Clinic very helpful. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/hcg-diet/AN02091 At the start of the article she says, "Because the HCG diet combines injections or supplements of the HCG hormone along with severe calorie restriction, you may lose weight — at least for the short term. But it's the calorie restriction that causes the weight loss, not the HCG. In addition, the safety of HCG for weight loss is uncertain, and the hormone hasn't been approved by the Food and Drug Administration as a treatment for obesity or weight control."

And as a side note, I have read Dr. Simeons "Pounds and Inches". A lot of his information is a little behind and some has been disproved. Most of the current adherents to his program still follow his basic approach but they have "upgraded" with information that is available now and not at his writing.


i have used the hcg program because on every other program, after losing about 15 pounds my weight loss stops. I have been a yo yo dieter since I was about 35 (now 57) when I started to have a serious weight problem. I have used the hcg drops 3 times and lost 48 pounds all together. I have so far kept it off each time I stop the program (those of you familiar with Pounds and Inches know what I am talking about). IMO, two major factors have been crucial to me. First, is the weigh in EVERY SINGLE DAY. It is so much easier to lose one or two pounds than 10! The other thing is the maintenance period between "rounds." This is important because for every other diet, I have just sort of petered out---paying less attention and eventually stopping. HCG gives me a break from the really hard part of the plan, while also rewarding me with no weight gain a eating normally! Say what you will about the danger, lack of logic, etc about this plan. It worked for me and the shape of my body has definitely changed for the better. Btw, I had 110 pounds to lose when I started the first round. Now I am almost halfway there.


This was on the Dr Oz show and he actually endorsed it with the overview of ones family Doctor.


If others can lose weight without it, why would you need this?

Surely it's a last resort, as in you've been calorie counting and exercising (logged) for 6 months or so with no effect.

I don't believe in any shortcut, 9 times out of 10 the road less travelled is less travelled for a reason.


I have just finished my 3rd round of hcg, (under supervision of my holistic health consultant) with a total loss of 55 pounds. I know that for me, it was a tool to lose weight fast, because my body was really feeling the effects of long term obesity. Now, I am within 10 pounds of a healthy weight.

I agree that it does not teach how to adjust your lifestyle once you are not on the drops anymore. That is a definite weakness of the program. But during the dieting and maintaining phase you do practice eating healthy, whole foods. That does a lot for breaking old habits.

Now I'm working on maintaining what I've lost, which really hasn't been too hard after each round. However, I'm ready to learn what I need to in order to keep the weight off and stay healthy, for myself and my family.
