Stuck Topic

Hello,
Fir the last 3 months I have been really good at maintaining my current weight. I would like to lose more though. My plan says to consume 1300 cals and I am. But not losing weight. At the moment my schedule doesn’t allow me to have a regular exercise routine. After 8/20 I will. I want to be able to lose weight without exercise, which is very possible since I lost almost 15 of my total 21 lbs over the course of this year so far without exercise. Any tips/strategies you can offer? Thank you in advance.

Oooo have you tried intermittent fasting? It’s definitely hard at first but later on you would feel more lighter and would see the difference in about 10 weeks.

Hi EmGetSkinni-

Sorry to hear the scale is not reflecting your hard work. This can be frustrating and create doubt. I'd suggest taking a minute to pat yourself on the back for your weight maintenance. Maintaining your weight is not easy and with your busy schedule and inability to do regular planned exercise, you are clearly doing a great job with energy balance!

It can take time to lose weight and reach our ultimate goal. Sometimes when our body doesn't respond the way we think it should we can distrust our plan. No need to abandon ship and find a crash diet. Instead, check out these simple tips and remember to be kind to yourself.

I kinda already do intermittent fasting just because of my food schedule. I eat dinner at 6 pm and then nothing till breakfast at 7:30 am next day.

Thanks for the articles Joanna. I have accepted this will take a long time just would be nice to even see a slow decrease. I will keep at it. I have lost 22 lbs so far. I would like to lose another 10-15 lbs.

If I go past that 12 hour mark I get super shaky. Also my heart races. I don’t know why.

Honestly 1300 calories is an extremely low intake.

I have found tdee are the best way to calculate your caloric needs.

It takes in to account your exercise, age, height, and weight.

Hi Hi EmGetSkinni,

I agree with all the excellent advice Joanna gave you. Also, I would step back and find a quiet space and take maybe 30 minutes to review your recent food log. For example, sometimes we can get a little "loose"with our estimations of how much we actually eat and we can also forget to record snacks or drinks. You can also use the notes section to track things like hunger or symptoms like shakiness or where you were eating. You mention that you get super shaky and your heart races after 12 hours without eating; This means that an intermittent fasting plan beyond 12 hours is not for you. Definitely personalize your plan.

Check out this recent blog I wrote that guides you on reflecting on your lifestyle habits. I hope you find it helpful.

Also, you mention you will add exercise to your plan in near future, it will definitely help kick start your weight loss. Here is a link to our MyNetDiary exercise blogs to help motivate you to start exercising in August. Please keep us posted. You've got this! Brenda (MyNetDiary Dietitian)

Thanks Jessy according to that site if I want to lose slow weight which they deem 1/2 a lb a week I should consume 1436 cals. And if I want to lose faster then to not go below 1200 without doctor approval. So it feels like MyNetDiary is on par with that.

Brenda thanks I will reassess my calories. I will continue my 1 hour a day walks after 8/20. Until then I just would like to see some decrease to stay motivated. And after 8/20 I hopefully will see more.

It took me decades to figure out that weight loss is a slow process if you want it to stay with you for life. I’m in no hurry. I know the number on the scale shouldn’t be my only indicator of success but let’s say it’s my biggest motivator.

Oh I realized I typed my current weight incorrectly on that site. It says I should consume 1393 for slow weight loss. Even closer to MyNetDiary’s estimation
