Keto and net carbs - help with understanding / using the app Topic

Hi! I'm relatively new to using the app (although I purchased it a while ago), and I'm a little confused as to how the app calculates carbs. I would like to track net carbs as a metric. Is there anything I need to do to show net carbs as a metric?

Currently, I can see carbs as a metric in the app. Sometimes the food I register appears to calculate net carbs and other times it registers total carbs rather than net. For instance, I sourced a keto recommended bread from Aldi's but in the app, that carbs for that bread are registering total carbs, not net.

So, I'm not sure if I need to manually adjust the entry for net carbs, if it's been added to incorrectly, or if there's a setting in the app where I can specify net carbs only.

Thanks

Hello Tibbet,

That's a good question. MyNetDiary takes the total carbs, fiber, and sugar alcohols directly from the food label. As long as the food label has gram values for those three nutrients, the net carbs should be calculated as:
Total carbs grams - fiber grams - sugar alcohol grams.

Net carbs are not mandatory to list on food labels because there is no evidence-based recommendation for this nutrient so MND uses the equation above to derive the net carb amount. There are also cases where the food label includes sugar alcohols in the Ingredient List, but the gram values are not listed on the Nutrition Facts panel. In that case, MyNetDiary assumes the sugar alcohol value is "0." MyNetDiary does not look at the Ingredient List at all.

If you have maximum membership, you can change the settings for carbs to choose between total carbs, net carbs, or diabetes carb count. You go into the diabetes settings to do this:
Android app: If you do not see a carb count on your food item screen, go into Settings, tap Carb Settings, and then toggle on “Show Preferred Carbs.”
iPhone app: Go into any meal screen, tap the gear icon at the bottom of the screen, and then toggle on “Show Carbs” in the Food Search Settings screen.

Please let me know if this answered your question.

How would I change the settings to show net carbs, if that is necessary OR am I getting the correct number for net carbs when I just subtract net carbs from carbs

Hi Machu1, if you prefer to track net carbs, you can go into Settings and choose to track net carbs if you have either Maximum membership or a paid app. You shouldn't have to calculate net carbs yourself. Am I understanding your question correctly?
