Plateaus Topic

Help needed!! I am stuck between 342 and 344 for the past 2 weeks and it’s driving me crazy!! I had been loosing about 2 pounds a week for 3 months and now I hit a brick wall!!

This has happened to me too. I’m not sure what was happening, but after a few weeks of plateauing I did start to lose weight again, although at a slower rate. My guess is that my basal metabolic rate went down because I was losing weight too fast, but it’s hard to say. Keep the faith, plateaus aren’t forever!

Thank so much for letting me know, I’m not alone! I’ll keep plugging away, one day at a time!

Hi EJohns3073,

Hitting a weight loss plateau can be frustrating and I realize this can cause doubt in your plan. Here are some tips to help get the scale moving:

1. Stick with your plan. You may be tempted to throw in the towel and resort to eating foods you normally wouldn’t. It may feel good in the short term to “let it all go” but counterproductive to your ultimate goal of getting healthy.
2. In addition to tracking and guestimating the size of your meals and snacks, many people find it helpful to weigh and measure their food. Sometimes you may be eating larger portions than you realize. This article can help with estimating portions: https://www.mynetdiary.com/estimating-portions-for-food-diary.html
3. Make sure you are drinking enough water. As simple as it sounds, many of us don't get in enough water and then confuse thirst for hunger. Here's how to track your water intake using the app: https://www.mynetdiary.com/how-much-should-you-drink.html
4. Finally, here's an article with tips to break a plateau. https://www.mynetdiary.com/have-you-been-dieting-and-exercising-but-not-losing-weight-try-these-proven-plateau-solutions.html
Please let us know which tips resonate with you.

If you don’t see the scale budge in the next 5 days with these suggestions, please do not hesitate to reach out again. Weight loss is hard and there is no reason to go at it alone!

Hang in there! Brenda (MyNetDiary Dietitian)
