Friends needed for motivation Topic

Hi

I'm new to this site could use a few friends for support. Was on another site for five years but had a set back and I'm trying to refocus on here. Glad of
support which will be reciprocated. Good luck all.

Hi Gettingrid, welcome to MyNetDiary! What do you think is your biggest struggle when it comes to achieving a healthier weight? Best, Kathy

Evening snacking, try to keep them within calorie allowance, had two major surgeries in three months and gained a stone of my previous loss

I had to break my evening snack habit. I turned off the TV and got a nook (usually ebook) and cuddled into a fluffy blanket in a room FARthest from kitchen. It’s working so far (down 17 lbs)

I like your style jojo_indy, I'm trying to keep hands busy by knitting it's helping a bit. Early days I'm trying g to keep strong

Hi Gettingrid- Evening snacking can be tough! For many people it is the first time they have sat down and had any time to themselves all day long. This article below has 3 tips to help with evening snacking and on nights when the book is not enough, there are a few recipes that are reasonable in calories if you do need to snack. Hang in there! Hi Gattingrid

I hope it’s going well for you since joining MND. Evening snacking is a sneaky little thing isn’t it! You’re not alone in that area at all. The more we are mindful of how it creeps in and things we can do to keep it in its proper place the better off we are.

Water when we feel this way is a good go to and maybe try a hot tea (non caffeine of course) then weigh yourself first thing in the morning (after a night you wanted to snack late, but didn’t in particular) because I’ve found this to motivate me and make me grateful I didn’t give into that craving I didn’t truly need.

And check for snack recipes that you can prepare ahead of time and pull from the freezer so you don’t grab for an unhealthy option.

Above all, I tend to agree with journaling how we feel. Do not be hard on yourself if you do indulge. Start fresh the next day. Water Water Water! Keep us posted!

Thank you Lucy Lake I think I'm getting a little more controlled. It's silly isn't it when we can be strong at most other times. Thanks for support Carol

Dear Carol,

After working with people for years, I would like to let you know that snacking in the evening is one of the biggest challenges for so many people! You are not alone! We are in the comfort of our own home after a long day. The TV ads don't help either, do they? I have found that brushing my teeth after my evening meal helps a lot because I don't want to go back and brush again:)

Another thought I have is that we are such creatures of habit so I love your plan to find another area of house to do something other than watching TV. Or, if you can't pull yourself away from the TV, maybe do a project while watching. I have been cutting fabric for pillows and potholders and it keeps my hands busy while watching TV out of the corner of my eye. (My husband and I like to watch a few mindless shows so no need to be glued to the TV. haha)
I am also into jigsaw puzzles, another eve activity that is fun.

Anyone have other ideas for alternatives to TV in eve?

Let's keep on inspiring each other! Brenda (Dietitian)

Thank you Brenda, yes I knit most evening whilst glimpsing up to tv for the soaps!!! Lol! I also make greeting cards. I do have a snack still but keeping it low calorie and at a certain time. Thank you for coming back to me. Carol
