How can I calculate stairs climbing? Topic

I climbed 600 stair steps today. I can find a number of .17 per step, but certainly the fact that I am 270 lbs makes the calories add faster than a 150 lb guy. Is their a good formula out there?

I’ve seen 160/minute quotes, which is more about the time you spend doing it. No measurement is perfect.

Well .17 figures out to 107 calories, which I think is way to low and your 160/minute would be about 1600 calories, which is way too high. I would guess the real number is somewhere in the 300s.

Hi Jloughlin- Figuring out calories burned from various activities is a challenge. How many flights of stairs can you complete in 30 minutes? In the app you can use the exercise entry "stair climbing, slow pace" or "running, stairs up" and you can specify based on time.
The app uses a standard calculation to come up with the number of calories burned per minute. It uses METS or metabolic equivalents. Here is some additional information about this calculation. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metabolic_equivalent_of_task
