Dietary cholesterol refers to the cholesterol found in food. Your body makes all the cholesterol it needs, so there is no requirement for dietary cholesterol. Dietary cholesterol plays a minimal role in blood cholesterol levels (saturated fat is a larger factor). Therefore, the USDA dietary guidelines do not specify a limit on dietary cholesterol. Previous guidelines suggested under 300 mg per day.
