AI Restaurant Menu Scan - Premium Plus feature

With Premium Plus, open Diet Tools and tap Restaurant Menu AI Scan. Photograph the menu or choose Website for an online menu, then tap Next. Set your preferences and tap Analyze Menu to review recommendations. Menu calories are estimates; when the food arrives, tap Go to Meal Scan to log the actual dish.

AI Restaurant Menu Scan is the Premium Plus feature that helps you decide what to order when eating out. Scan a restaurant's menu, from a photo or an online menu, and the app recommends the dishes that best fit your diet, your calorie budget, and your preferences.

How it works

You take one or more photos of the menu (or point the app to an online menu), and the app suggests the best available options based on your diet goals, today's calorie budget, and your remaining calories. When your food arrives, you can use Meal Scan to log the actual dish for accurate nutrition.

How do I open AI Restaurant Menu Scan?

There are two ways to start.

From Diet Tools

Open the Diet Tools tab and tap Restaurant Menu AI Scan.

From AI Coach

Open AI Coach, tap the + button, and choose AI Restaurant Menu Scan.

How to scan a menu and get suggestions

1. Capture the menu

Point your camera at the menu and take one or more photos. Use Photo or QR for a printed menu or a QR-code menu, or use Website to scan an online menu. For long menus, capture multiple photos so all the dishes are included.

For the clearest results, align and capture the full menu page, and avoid glare or shadows. When you are done, tap Next.

2. Set your preferences

On the AI Menu Scan screen, you can fine-tune your suggestions:

  • Menu Photos: Add more photos if any part of the menu is missing.
  • Aim for Suggested Calorie: When turned on, suggestions aim for a target calorie amount based on your remaining budget. Actual calories may vary depending on how the dish is prepared.
  • Food Preferences: Tap the styles that appeal to you, such as Grilled, Roasted, Seafood, Light, Spicy, Vegetarian, High-fiber, or High-protein.
  • Additional preferences: Type anything else to include or avoid, for example "dairy free" or "no onions."

When you are ready, tap Analyze Menu.

3. Review your options

The app presents several options (Option A, Option B, Option C, and so on). Each option lists the dishes to order, a short description, and tags such as Vegetarian, Comfort, or Balanced to help you choose. If you would like different ideas, tap Analyze Menu Again.

Logging your meal after it arrives

Menu suggestions and their calories are estimates, and the real values depend on the restaurant's portions and preparation. When your food arrives, tap Go to Meal Scan to take a photo of the actual dish and log accurate nutrition.

If the calories turn out higher than expected, eat and log what feels right and save the rest. You are still on track.

Tips for best results

  • Capture the full menu page in good lighting, avoiding glare and shadows.
  • Add several photos for long or multi-page menus.
  • Set your food preferences and any dietary needs for more relevant suggestions.
  • Use Meal Scan when your food arrives so your diary reflects the real meal.

Is there a usage limit?

AI features are not unlimited, but most users will not reach the cap during normal use. To keep the feature sustainable, there is a combined monthly allowance shared across all AI features, such as AI chat, meal scanning, and others. If you do reach the limit, the app will let you know, and your allowance resets at the start of the next month.

A note on accuracy

As with any AI-powered feature, the suggestions and estimated calories are approximate and can vary by preparation. Review the options before ordering, and log the actual meal with Meal Scan for the most accurate tracking.
