Allergens tracking

The food database does not currently include allergen data, because most food labels do not list it and keeping it current across over 2 million foods takes ongoing manual work. A custom allergen field is on the to-do list. For now, use Daily Notes, or Copy & Customize to add gluten-free or allergen notes to a name.

We’re considering adding a field for tracking common allergens and gluten, especially for those with Celiac disease. Our food database currently doesn’t include allergen data because most food labels don’t list it, and keeping this info updated across over 2 million verified foods would require ongoing manual work as brands change recipes.

The idea of adding a blank field for custom allergen tracking is on our to-do list, but it's not a high priority right now. We agree it would be a valuable feature. For now, we recommend using Daily Notes to track allergens.

Some foods in the database include "gluten-free" in their names. For more reliable info, check out Celiac.org’s Gluten Free Marketplace, which offers a searchable website and app.

You can also use Copy & Customize to edit a food and add “gluten-free” or other allergen notes to the name for easier tracking.
