Timelines is currently available only in the Android app.
On Android
Open Timelines
- Tap the Diet Tools tab at the bottom of the screen.
- In the Analysis & Insights section, tap Timelines.
- Tap one of the Suggested Timelines to open it.
Move between periods
The dates you are viewing appear at the top left of the screen. The current period (for example, Month) appears at the top right. Tap the left arrow to view the previous period or the right arrow to view the next one. Scroll down to see all the charts in the timeline.
Open the full chart for a value
- Open a timeline.
- Tap the three-dot menu in the top right corner.
- Tap Go to Chart, then select the chart you want.
This opens the app's full chart for that value, with its own detailed views and settings.
Turn on Include Complete Days Only
- On the Timelines screen, tap the gear icon in the top right corner.
- Turn Include Complete Days Only on or off.
Days on which you logged only part of your food can make your intake look lower than it really is. When this setting is on, those incomplete days are left out, so your averages and trends are more realistic.
This setting is off by default and applies to all your timelines. It affects only charts based on your Food Log: calories, nutrients, health factors, and calorie deficit. Weight, exercise, steps, water, GLP-1 medication, My Health measurements, notes, day events, and labels are not affected.
Tip: To see which of your days are complete, review the Food Log Completeness chart in the My Diet Trends section of Diet Tools.
Create a timeline (Premium)
- On the Timelines screen, tap Add Timeline.
- Choose an option:
- Create New – build a timeline from scratch.
- Templates – start from a ready-made timeline and adjust it as needed.
- Add the charts you want to compare, then arrange them in the order you prefer.
Customize a timeline (Premium)
- Open the timeline.
- Tap the three-dot menu in the top right corner, then tap Customize Timeline.
Suggested Timelines
The Timelines screen lists three Suggested Timelines. They are available to all users and are built from the data you already track:
- Dashboard Timeline – the values you track on your Dashboard, such as weight, calories, exercise calories, and daily steps.
- My Nutrients Timeline – calories, Food Grade, and the nutrients you track, such as fat, carbohydrates, and protein.
- My Health Timeline – your My Health measurements, such as heart rate, blood pressure, and blood glucose.
How to read a timeline
All charts in a timeline share the same dates, so each day lines up vertically across every chart. Some timelines keep one chart fixed at the top of the screen. It stays visible while you scroll, so you can compare it with the charts below.
Chart styles
- Bars show daily amounts, such as calories, nutrients, exercise calories, water, and steps.
- Lines show values that change gradually, such as weight and body measurements. Dots mark the days you logged an entry.
- Range bars show heart rate and blood pressure. Each bar runs from your lowest to your highest reading of the day. For blood pressure, systolic readings are blue and diastolic readings are green.
- Colored dots show Food Grade, Daily Notes, and individual day events.
Food Grade colors: dark green = A, green = B, orange = C, light red = D, gray = no grade for that day.
What each chart shows for a day
| Chart | Value shown for each day |
|---|---|
| Calories, nutrients, Food Grade | Based on everything logged in your Food Log that day |
| Exercise calories, water, GLP-1 medication | Total for the day |
| Daily steps | Your step total for the day |
| Weight, body measurements, cholesterol, A1C, custom trackers | Your last entry of the day |
| Blood glucose | Your highest reading of the day |
| Heart rate, blood pressure | The range from your lowest to your highest reading |
| Daily Notes, individual day events | Whether an entry exists that day |
| All day events, labels | Number of entries that day |
Longer periods: When you view a longer period, each bar or point may represent a week, two weeks, a month, or a year instead of a single day. In that case, the chart shows the average of the daily values in that span. Heart rate and blood pressure still show the full range from the lowest to the highest reading.
Customization options (Premium)
Options that require Premium are marked with a lock icon. Viewing the Suggested Timelines, opening full charts, and changing Timeline Settings are available to all users. When creating or customizing a timeline, you can:
- Add or remove charts from the categories listed below.
- Change the order of the charts.
- Pin a chart so it stays at the top of the screen while you scroll.
- Combine two values in one chart (for example, blood pressure and heart rate) to compare them directly.
- Adjust chart settings (see below).
What you can add to a timeline
| Category | Includes |
|---|---|
| Core charts | Weight, Daily Steps, Water, Exercise Calories, Calorie Deficit, BMI, BMR, and GLP-1 (the combined total of all your GLP-1 medications) |
| Nutrients | Calories and other nutrients, grouped into Popular, Fat-related, Carbs-related, Vitamins, Minerals, Aminos, Omegas, MCTs, and Other |
| Health factors | Electrolytes, Bone Health, Energy Support, Blood Health, and Immune Support |
| My Health trackers | Health, Body Log, Apps & Devices Data, Sleep, Medications, Insulin, GLP-1 Medications, Custom Trackers, and Other Trackers |
| Day events | All day events together, or individual events from groups such as Mood, Hunger/Fullness, Focus and Energy, Digestion, Health, Events, and Weather |
| Notes and labels | Daily Notes and labels |
Chart settings
The settings you see depend on the chart:
- Show % of Goal (nutrient charts) – shows each day's intake as a percentage of that day's goal instead of grams, milligrams, or other units. The app uses your own nutrient target. If you have not set one, it uses the recommended amount. If there is no recommended amount, it uses the upper limit. If none of these exist, the day shows 0%.
- Keywords (Daily Notes chart) – marks only the days whose note contains all the keywords you enter, in any order. Separate keywords with a space, comma, or period.
- Goal & Settings (nutrient and tracker charts) – a shortcut to that item's goal and settings screen.
Troubleshooting
I do not see Timelines in the app
Timelines is currently available only in the Android app. Make sure your app is updated to the latest version, then check Diet Tools > Analysis & Insights.
My charts are empty or have gaps
Charts show only the data logged for the selected dates. Bar charts show zero on days with no data, while line and range charts skip those days. Use the left arrow to view earlier periods, and make sure the values are being logged or synced in the app.
My weight chart shows a flat line
If you have not weighed in during the selected period, the chart shows your most recent known weight across the whole period. Log a new weigh-in to update the chart.
My calorie or nutrient averages look lower than expected
Days with partial food logging pull your averages down. Turn on Include Complete Days Only in Timeline Settings to leave those days out.
