How may I enter a portion size that isn't there?

The app shows the exact serving the vendor provided plus every conversion it can make. If the vendor gave a weight, enter grams or ounces, and use a food scale where you can. If the vendor gave a volume, you also get ml, cup, fl oz and tsp. Otherwise estimate in another unit.

MyNetDiary and PlateAI show the exact serving provided by the food vendor and all conversions possible.

If the vendor provided serving in weight units, enter portion size in grams (g) or ounces (oz). Use a food scale when possible, as this will be the most accurate.

If the vendor provided a serving volume, e.g., tbsp, MyNetDiary and PlateAI will list all other standard volume measurement units: ml, cup, fl oz, and tsp.

Notice that oz and fl oz are different measurement units. Eight ounces of table salt are in many times heavier than eight fluid ounces of popcorn.

If you don't see a particular serving size, that means our apps cannot figure this out. Estimate amount in another measurement unit. It's OK to enter approximate portion size. Just keep tracking your foods!

Related questions

Which units can I use when a vendor provides a weight serving?

When the vendor supplies a serving in weight units, enter the portion in grams or ounces. Use a food scale when possible because a measured weight provides the most accurate portion for that food.

Are ounces and fluid ounces the same serving unit?

No. Ounces measure weight, while fluid ounces measure volume. The difference matters because equal numeric amounts can represent very different food quantities; the article contrasts eight ounces of salt with eight fluid ounces of popcorn.

What should I do if my serving size is not listed?

Use another available measurement unit and estimate the amount. A missing size means the apps cannot calculate that conversion from the vendor information, so an approximate portion in a supported unit is acceptable and lets you keep tracking.
